Commercial motorcycle, KEKE NAPEP riders call for construction of public toilets in Bauchi

A passionate appeal has been made by commercial motorcyclists otherwise known as ‘Achaba riders’, as well as keke napep operators on the Bauchi State government to as a matter of necessity, build more public toilets in all parts of the state in order to check open defecation and reduce airborne diseases in the state.
The appeal was made on Monday by the Chairman, Bauchi State keke napep Operators Association, Malam Ma’aruf Nuhu during a workshop organised by a Bauchi based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Development Exchange Centre (DEC) for keke and Achaba riders as part of activities marking this year’s World Toilet Day.
He noted that many riders and passengers resort to open defecation by the roadsides or bushes nearby due to lack of adequate public toilets around.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the DEC, Mrs Titi Yakubu explained that the event was aimed at enlightening the commercial motorcyclists and tricyclists on the dangers of open defecation opining that the problem is more rampant among them.
She said that 18th November every year was designated by the United Nations as World toilet day in view of the dangers associated with open defecation such as the outbreak of diseases and environmental nuisance.
Mrs Titi Yakubu then explained that her NGO is working in the areas of health, hygiene, girl-child education and women empowerment through the provision of loans to small-scale businesswomen.
