THE Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Williams Naira Ogoba, Oboro II, has urged all Nigerians to come closer to the Ijaws of Gbaramatu Kingdom to know that they are not killers or violent people.

The 26th Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom made the plea during a courtesy visit to his palace at Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of the kingdom by officials of Chevron Nigeria Ltd (CNL) on the occasion of the presentation of staff of office to the Pere.

HRM Ogoba, who prayed God to bless Chevron and its staff, admonished the company not to entertain fears in the course of their work in the kingdom.

“We’re peaceful people. Come closer to us and you’ll know we’re peaceful people.

We feed the nation, but we’ve been neglected.

We’re not killers; relate with us closely and you’ll see that we’re peaceful people, “ HRM Ogoba pleaded while addressing officials of CNL.

Officials of CNL, who paid the courtesy visit, included Mr Oluwole Agunbiade, PGPA Superintendent; Mrs Uche Obelle, Security Manager; Mr Akpomojere Ese, Surveyor and Mr Dunn B. N, Security Officer.

Mr Agunbiade, who spoke on behalf of the CNL crew, said they were at Oporoza to present a token and ascertain the level of preparation towards the presentation of staff of office ceremony which held on Tuesday.

He lauded the Pere for saving the life of a Chevron’s general manager at a time of crisis, of which he expressed gratitude to the traditional stool.

Meanwhile, acting secretary of the Gbaramatu Traditional Council, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, who led the CNL officials to the palace, re-echoed the view of HRM Ogoba that Ijaws of Gbaramatu Kingdom are not troublemakers.

Other chiefs at the occasion were former technician with CNL, Chief Alfred Bubor and pioneer chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Wellington Okrika, among others.

Chiefs Okrika and Bubor urged Chevron to close ties with the kingdom as well as honour and treat well old and retired staff of the company who are natives of the kingdom.
