College set to boost dental healthcare

Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology said it had included dental surgery technicians’ scheme into its programme to checkmate the dearth in this cadre of health workers for the primary healthcare level.

The college’s acting Provost, Mr Siji Ganiyu made this disclosure during the institution’s 2016/2017 matriculation of 443 into its seven programmes in Ibadan.

Ganiyu declared that many dental surgery technicians in government service were either retiring or retired and as such the need for their replacement.

According to him, “it is part of the college’s effort to continually ensure it produces quality and adequate manpower for health care, especially at the primary healthcare level.”

Ganiyu, however, urged the new entrants into the institution to be conversant with the rules and regulations of the college so as not to violate them.

He added, “do not follow the multitude to do evil. Face your studies squarely and make the best of the college facilities. Do not vandalise them.”

The college, a former affiliate of London School of Hygiene, he said in the last academic session recorded 98 per cent pass mark, urging for continual support of the state government in actualising its mandates.

While assuring that the college’s management will continue to ensure the provision of modern technologies for the training of middle-level health professionals, Ganiyu declared that the school’s admission process will start in March to make space for more interested candidates.

Thereafter, the 443 students took a oath to respect the authority of the college, observe all existing regulations; work for the good of the college as well as refrain from any action that can bring disrepute to the institution’s name.
