The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has emphasized the need for collaboration among key stakeholders in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution to ensure a reliable power supply across the nation.
This statement was made by the General Manager of TCN, Bauchi Region, Engineer Abubakar Garba Abdulaziz, during an interactive session with the media at his office on Friday.
Engineer Abubakar Garba called for the support of both religious and traditional leaders to raise awareness and mobilize communities to protect the company’s facilities, thereby ensuring an uninterrupted power supply.
He highlighted that TCN has the necessary workforce to operate the 27 generation stations located across the country.
He further explained that the Bauchi Regional Office oversees six states in the North-East subregion, including Plateau, as well as parts of Kaduna and Kano states.
He stated: “The TCN Bauchi office boasts the largest transmission network, designed to meet the power demands and aspirations of the region’s residents.”
Expressing optimism, he announced that the Bauchi 330 KVA line would be ready for commissioning next year, which is expected to significantly enhance power supply within the state and beyond.
Furthermore, he noted that the federal government, in collaboration with international donor organizations, is actively upgrading all facilities and transmission lines in the region to ensure a constant power supply.
The TCN Regional Manager also raised concerns over the persistent vandalization of transmission lines and illegal encroachments on the right of way, which disrupt operational efficiency.
He appealed to state governments to help prevent construction and business activities within these restricted corridors.
Additionally, he urged state authorities and other stakeholders to educate the public on the importance of protecting federal assets for the country’s overall development.
Engineer Abubakar Garba commended local government initiatives in Yobe State, where the Civilian Joint Task Force has been engaged to monitor and prevent vandalism of transmission lines.
The session included participation from TCN Bauchi management, who appealed to the public for patience as company engineers work diligently to repair damaged towers in the Kaduna region.
Their primary objective is to ensure consistent power transmission and keep the public well-informed.
The event concluded with a visit to sites where new transformers are being installed, as well as a tour of the TCN control room.
