COE, Minna seeks collaboration with FRSC to ensure safety of students, visitors

The Niger College of Education, Minna, said that it has commenced arrangement to revive its Special Marshal unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) toward ensuring safety of students and visitors.

Prof. Rasheed Haruna, Provost of the college, made this known on Saturday in Minna, when he led management and students to commiserate with family of a student killed by an oil tanker.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that late student Miss Angela Daniel was killed on Monday by the tanker that alleged a failed break opposite the college gate along Minna/Suleja road.

NAN also recalls that the incident which killed Daniel on the spot left another student, who was on a motorcycle with severe injury.

“We have commenced arrangements with FRSC to revive our special marshal unit and ensure that it will be proactive,’’ he said.

Haruna said that the special marshal unit would operate on daily basis, especially within official hour when there is high traffic to ensure safety of the college community.

He said that the state government was making haste to complete ongoing construction of pedestrian bridge opposite the college to avert such accident which had claimed the lives of many students.

The Provost said that the speed bumps on the road would be increased to ensure that vehicles slow down while approaching the college.
He, however, said that the visit was to condole with family of late Daniel, adding “we cannot question God because he is the giver of live and He takes it when He deems fit.’’

Haruna then donated unspecified amount of money to the family as the institution’s contribution to the burial of the deceased.

Also speaking, Mrs Teni Gomna, who spoke on behalf of the bereaved family, said late Daniel was a 28 year old 200 level student of School of Arts and Social Sciences of the college.

Gomna commended the management and students of the college for their kind gesture.
