Coca Cola reiterates commitment to building sustainable future •Unveils packaging collectíon hub

The Coca-Cola System in Nigeria has restated its commitment to building a more sustainable future in Nigeria, as it commissioned a new packaging collectíon hub, in Apapa area of Lagos, recently.

The Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola HBC, known as Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), Zoran Bogdanovic, noted that the facility, with the capacity to process up to 13,000 metric tonnes of plastic bottles, annually, represents a significant milestone in the System’s journey of reducing waste by collecting and recycling its packaging in Nigeria.

Zoran expressed the belief that by investing in the facility, the company would be supporting local communities, create jobs and demonstrating  its commitment to building a more sustainable future in Nigeria, which remains integral to the success of its business.

Besides, he stated that the hub would serve as a comprehensive solution for plastic waste management; since it seeks to facilitate PET collection, process materials into clean PET Bales, and enable PET production through third party partnerships, thereby contributing to the cleaner communities.

The Coca-Cola Company’s Africa Operating Unit President, Luisa Ortega explained that the company had, over the past seven and a half decades, through collaboration with local and global partners, continued to expand its design innovations, explore new collection models, improve existing ones, invest in local infrastructure, and engage with communities to help create a better shared future.

“We are proud to partner with the Nigerian government in addressing the critical challenge of waste management while fostering economic growth,” Ortega stated.

In his remarks, the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, described the new facility as a symbol of progress and a tangible demonstration of the kind of Corporate Social Responsibility that was needed in the state.

Sanwoolu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Circular Economy, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, noted that NBC had demonstrated it’s commitment to looking beyond profit while doing business.
