Coca-Cola reinforces commitment to women empowerment

Non-alcoholic brewing company, Coca-Cola Nigeria, has again pledged its commitment to economically empowering the nation’s feminine gender.

The company’s Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Manager, Nwamaka Onyemelukwe, who made the commitment in Lagos, at the just-concluded Lagos State Employability Trust Fund (LSETF) Employment Summit, stated that the company, in collaboration with its  bottling company, the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), would be providing  the opportunities for women entrepreneurs  to showcase their talents, while providing them with the needed support.

Onyemelukwe expressed the company’s resolve to conclude its five by 20 Goal, aimed at empowering five million people by 2020, especially in Nigeria,  on a high note.

“So far, a total of 3.8million women have been impacted as at the end of 2018 with over 330,000 women beneficiaries coming from Nigeria.

“Coca-Cola launched the 5by20 initiative in 2010, with  an audacious goal to economically empower 5 million women across its  value chain by the year 2020. Every year since then, the company has launched different programmes,  aligning with this strategic objective to create shared value across different communities,” she stated.

She highlighted the train and equip model as one of the reasons the company had recorded much success, since it had been able to not only provide the women beneficiaries jobs of their own, but have also turned them into job creators.
