The Association of Coastal and Waterways Communities of Nigeria, Bayelsa State Chapter, has expressed displeasure on the herders attack on farmers in Bayelsa.
It stated that that the cattle rearing business is affecting food production and security in the Niger Delta region.
The chairperson of the association, Odede Dinikpete Tina, in statement issued in Yenagoa appealed to the state government to swing into action as the constant clash between herders and farmers have led to the loss of many lives in the state.
Explaining further, she pointed out that the state need to setup a special taskforce to monitor the activities of herdsmen and scavengers who go about with guns, robbing and killing innocent citizens of the state.

The statement reads, “They are now a threat to our farmers. These herdsmen are dangerous. The government should do something fast. In our own land? Who gave them the right to enter our forest with guns and attack our farmers?
“Our mothers, youths and men are killed freely. While they are very free moving in all our forest. Can we go to the Northern of Nigeria and enter their forest? The answer is letter no.
“This issue should be handled as soon as possible by the Government. I believe my Governor, Sen Douye Diri, will heed this appeal and swing into action, and handle the situation without wasting time.
“Our aged mothers who can not run when they attack is my fear. We need a security taskforce in all our communities to monitor our forest because herders and scavengers have become trouble to our people. We leave our lives with fear.”
