Coachella: Burna Boy kicks over poster font size, Nigerians react

Published by

Afro-fusion star, Damini Ogulu aka Burna has expressed his displeasure over the font size with which his name was written in on the Coachella poster.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that on Thursday, Burna boy and Mr Eazi were announced as the only African music artists to perform at 2019 Coachella.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo club in Indio, California, United States.

It is one of the most famous and profitable music festivals in the United States and all over the world.

Burna boy took to his Instagram story @burnaboygram to share his thoughts. He said, “@coachella I really appreciate you. But I don’t appreciate the way my name is written so small on your bill.

“I am an African Giant and will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means. Fix things please,” he said.

Following the post, the term ‘African Giant’ has been trending wildly on Twitter as most users expressed divergent views on his action.

Some twitter users saw the move as arrogant as several other top international celebrities had their names written in similar font sizes.

@Nechee_ tweeted, “And his name was written in the same font as Jaden Smith oh. LOL African Giant.”

@Ladispeaks wrote, “Twitter hype has gotten into Burna Boy’s head and now he thinks he is an African Giant and his name should be written over Ariana Grande.”

@Thatmechkid said, “Man said he is an ‘African giant’, small Twitter hype and dude is out here wilding.

“Idris Elba’s name is on that list too in small font, a multi award winning actor but no noise from him.”

Other Nigerians on social media also noted that although Burna Boy had a good year in 2018, he was not as huge a star as he probably thinks.

@Folushaw tweeted, “How many stadiums in Africa has Burna Boy filled. He needs to sit down and leave this giant talk to those who have the real pedigree to brag.

“Burna Boy thinks he has arrived. He thinks this is the peak of fame and fortune because he had a great 2018.”

@Harley said, “African Giant that only has one year musical success to present. Let them replace his name please.”

Reacting to the backlash, Burna boy posted an update on his Instagram page stating that he was against his team censoring his thoughts on the issue.

He said, “My team deletes when I speak my mind. Not me. I don’t appreciate that either.”
