The Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Ikole-Ekiti, Professor Dare Ogunlusi, has donated a multi-million naira primary health centre to the Kota-Ekiti community in Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Ogunlusi, an orthopedic surgeon and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons in Nigeria, who is from the community handed over the well-equipped health facility to the state government at the weekend during the official inauguration of the building.

He explained that his desire to build the edifice was necessitated over the absence of the primary heathcare centre in the area and that the people deserve to have access to quality and affordable medical services.

The medical expert added that he raised the fund to build the edifice from friends across the world as a way of giving back to his community and improve on the nation’s health sector to mark his birthday this year.

Ogunlusi, who lamented the series of health challenges confronting the people in the area following his yearly medical outreach, called on residents to take advantage of the facility towards accessing quality healthcare services.

He stated that the gesture is to complement the efforts of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji in the state’s health sector towards a healthy living for the residents.

He said: “It is just a sense of giving back to the society, which I think is something everybody should take seriously. It is not a big personal achievement but a communal achievement. I am extremely grateful and happy to get this done on my birthday (March 1st)

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, commended the donor for his commitment and desire to add value to its community through the building of the facility.

He noted that the donation of the health facility would be adequately put to use by the government by posting qualifed health personnel to the place in line with the agenda of Governor Oyebanji in the health sector.

While commending the traditional ruler in the community, the Elekota of Kota, Oba Emmanuel Fagbemi, for his commitment and selflessness for the community, Filani appealed to the residents to use the facility for their health needs.

The Chief Medical Director of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) Professor Kayode Olabanji lauded the commitment of the donor to his community, noting that the heath facility is built with necessary departments and units.

On his part, Oba Fagbemi said: “This facility is a testament to the power of community and the impact of selfless individuals who care deeply about the wellbeing of their people.”
