Published by

In line with efforts to garner the support of critical stakeholders to commit to fostering sustainable development and climate resilience across Africa, Impact Driven Entrepreneurship Advancement, IDEA Africa is partnering with Climate Action Africa and Silicon-Valley-based Founder Institute, to organize the Climate Action Africa Forum 2024 (CAAF24).

The 2-day event scheduled to take place from the 19th to the 20th of June, 2024 at Landmark Event Center, Lagos,  is expected to bring together climate action experts, activists, advocates, scientists, academia, entrepreneurs, CSOs, government, and community leaders from across the continent, to co-create solutions, share knowledge, experiences, build capacity and network for a greener and developed Africa.

The CAAF has developed a set of objectives, through which it seeks to empower Africa in its journey towards a sustainable and climate-resilient future, ensuring that the continent’s growth is both environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial.

These objectives include Expanding Africa’s Green Economy, which entails Global Collaboration, Investment Promotion, and Knowledge and Resource Sharing; Education and Awareness; Bridging Policy and Practice; and Strengthening Urban Resilience.

major component of the Forum will be the deal room which will bring together all the people with ideas in one room with the actual investors.

“The idea is to facilitate a handshake between the idea generators and the real investors.

“It will also create an opportunity for innovators to have access to funding and for the investors to find viable businesses they will invest in for appreciable impact.

“This platform offers a gateway for African entrepreneurs to showcase their innovations to a curated audience of investors who are eager to support and scale sustainable innovations,” according to Ifedy Eze, Executive Director of IDEA Africa, who spoke at a news conference in Awka, Anambra State Capital, on Tuesday.

He further stressed that the focus is on nurturing dialogue and partnerships that can lead to tangible investment and support for projects, aligning perfectly with IDEA Africa’s vision for sustainable development.

“If we as Africans do not take this issue seriously, it is only a matter of time until these negative happenings seen around the globe will begin to happen here. That’s the idea behind this forum– to generate a consciousness towards the global issue and create action to salvage our environment,” he said.

Grace Oluchi, Executive Director of Climate Action Africa, also expresses her excitement for the event and the invaluable opportunities it presents, affirming, “The Deal Room at CAAF24 is more than just a meeting place—it’s a launching pad for the next generation of climate solutions.

“Climate Action Africa in partnership with IDEA Africa is excited to facilitate these critical connections that can lead to significant environmental and economic impacts across Africa”.

Thrills, Joys, and Surprises of Selling Andrew Crawford, Director of the Founder Institute, underscores the strategic significance of the Deal Room, stating, “The Founder Institute is proud to support this innovative platform that brings together the brightest minds and the most passionate investors in the climate tech space. The goal is to catalyse impactful investments that can propel these startups to global success”.

Investors participating in the Deal Room include the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), The Catalyst Fund, the Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF), and more. Their participation underscores the event’s significance and the potential for substantial investment opportunities in Climate Change.

It was gathered that the session will facilitate financing for solutions contributing to the growth and sustainability of Africa’s green economy.
