Clerics pay tributes to Emir of Ilorin’s mother

The Chief Imam of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, Imam Muhammad Bashir, has described the mother of the Emir of Ilorin, Hajiya Aishatu Sulu-Gambari, as a God-fearing woman and a lover of peace.

Imam Bashir made the remark at the seventh day fidau prayer for Hajiya Sulu-Gambari, who died last week in Ilorin at the age of 124.

Imam Bashir noted that the deceased led a life that is worthy of emulation. According to him, despite her high social status, she spent her lifetime serving humanity.

He noted that in the course of her life as daughter, sister, wife and mother to successive Emirs of Ilorin, Hajiya Zulu-Gambari contributed to the growth and development of her community.

The late Aishatu Nma Sulu-Gambari was a granddaughter to the late seventh Emir of Ilorin, Shehu Shuaibu Bawa (1914-1919); daughter to the late eighth Emir of Ilorin, Shehu AbdulKadir Dan Shuiabu Bawa (1919-1959), wife to the late ninth Emir of Ilorin, Shehu ZulKaiani Muhammadu Gambari (1959-1992), sister to the late 10th Emir of Ilorin, Shehu Aliyu AbdulKadir (1992-1995) and mother to the 11th Emir of Ilorin, Mai-Martaba, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari (1995 till date).

The Chief Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad, described the death of Hajiya Sulu-Gambari as a loss to the people of Kwara State.

The cleric urged the people of Ilorin Emirate and beyond to honour her memory by forgiving one another, embracing peaceful coexistence and working harmoniously together for the progress of the emirate, Kwara State and the nation at large.

He stressed that the lifetime of the late queen should teach everyone lessons in God-consciousness and commitment to the cause of humanity.

In his remarks, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, thanked all Nigerians for mourning with him over the death of his mother.

“I sincerely appreciate the honour done to me and prayers offered for my mother,” he said.

In a statement signed by the National Secretary of Shehu Alimi Foundation for Peace and Development, Malam Abdulazeez Arowona, the emir thanked all traditional rulers, top government functionaries, associations, grass-root movements, members of the Ilorin Emirate, home and abroad and clerics for their support and prayers.

He urged Ilorin indigenes to love one another and sustain the peaceful atmosphere currently being enjoyed in the state.

“I will sincerely miss my mother. She was a unique factor not only to the royal dynasty but to the entire nation,” he said and urged the people of the state to emulate her good deeds.
