THE Bishop, Diocese of Kaduna (Anglican Communion), Right Reverend Timothy Yahaya, has called on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to take as a matter of priority the security of lives of Nigerians.
He also called on those in government to respect the sanctity of life by declaring a day of national mourning over the crises that had led to the death of a lot of Nigerians in some parts of the country.
Bishop Yahaya made the call shortly after the New Year church service at the St. Michael Cathedral (Anglican Communion), while fielding questions from newsmen.
According to him, “Killings in Nigeria are almost handled with levity; death in a nation attracts national mourning. The president must see to his constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and properties of its citizens.”
He said, political leaders should not to betray the trust reposed in them by Nigerians, stressing that only the truth can liberate a nation.
“Those in positions of leadership should hold the nation’s wealth with trust without looting the funds or resources under their watch,” the cleric stated.
He further called on Nigerians to eschew hatred, nepotism and tribalism but to embrace peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship.
He blamed the insecurity in the nation to porous borders.
He commended President Buhari on the relentless fight against terrorism and all forms of insurgency, stating that the tempo should be sustained until terrorism was completely wiped out.
On the economy, he said the ongoing diversification of the economy should not be politicised, adding that the budget should be anchored on national development.
