This call was made by the Bishop, Diocese of Ilesha, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Reverend Dr. Samuel Sowale, while reading the Bishop’s Charge during the second session of the 15th Synod of the Diocese which held at Christ The Saviour’s Anglican Church. Cappa, Ilesha.
Sowale said:”Let us shift attention from white collar jobs to agriculture and other natural resources instead of depending solely on oil.
“The fulani herdsmen that destroy farmlands, burn houses and kill should be permanently restricted to their ranches to give peaceful atmosphere for all forms of farming”. He noted.
He, however, appeal to federal and state governments not to pay lip services to agriculture as was done with Operation Feed the Nation (OFN) and Green revolution in the past regimes.
“The government must change from the business as usual attitude and seriously establish farm settlements. The government should encourage mechanised farming and supply farming implements to all geographical locations of Nigeria”.
The Bishop noted that this will readily provide jobs for the teeming youths who now join secret cults and robbers in the country.
