Cleric charges Christians on love, tolerance

Pastor Olusegun Elijah, a cleric at the Christ Foundation Bible Church, Ilorin, on Wednesday, charged Christians to love their neighbours irrespective of their religious beliefs.

Elijah, who gave this charge in Ilorin, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), added that without love, there could be no unity of purpose in the efforts to develop the nation.

He said that it was the love that existed among the founding fathers of the nation that contributed to the present stage of development in the country.

Elijah added that without love for one another, there could be no basis for anyone to claim love for God.

“The main problem we have in Nigeria today is deception, we deceive ourselves when we claim to love God when we actually do not love our neighbours.

“The love of God is love for one another, where there is love, there is peace and understanding, which makes development possible.

“Nigeria was founded on the basis of love and tolerance and it must continue and the most important identity of a true Christian is love.

“The Bible makes us to understand that love is the greatest gift from God, therefore, we must strive to obey God and show love at all times.

“I charge all Nigerians irrespective of their religious and ethnic backgrounds to love and tolerate one another; enough of bloodshed, hunger and poverty in the land”.
