Cleric cautions Christians against vengeance, violence

Published by

REVEREND Fr Philip Jamang, the Priest in charge of Church of Assumption, Chongo Pyeng, Jos has cautioned Christians against craving for vengeance when offended.

Jamang, in his Sunday sermon, pointed out that “an eye for an eye will only make the world blind.”

According to him, the way God sees things is entirely different from the way the world sees them.

“The Lord has said that vengeance is His; we should not underrate his capacity to tackle every evil on our behalf,” he said.

He urged Christians to eschew violence and embrace peace while praying for a better world for all.

“Jesus preached peace and love; we should desist from vengeance, violence and aggression.

“Jesus told us that peacemakers should rejoice because they will be called sons of God.

“He also told us that those who will be persecuted in the course of doing right, and those who will receive abuses for His name’s sake, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

”With these words of Jesus, I feel Christians have no reason to retaliate any bad act meted unto them because the reward of peacemakers will be great on the last day,” he said.

Jamang called on Nigerian leaders to lead according to the precepts of Christ, and challenged them to implement  policies that would promote peaceful coexistence.

The priest admonished Nigerians to sew seeds of peace and love in the society.
