Civil Society Groups condemn alarm over security situation in Ogun

The Coalition of Civil Society groups in Ogun State has condemned the alarm raised by a coalition of Non-Governmental Organisations over the security situation in the state.

The body had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari over what it described as “growing intolerance and insecurity in Ogun State.”

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday was the Ogun State chairman of Coalition of Civil Society, Comrade Folarin Olayinka, who described the alarm as a spurious claiming aimed at undermining the peace of the state.

Olayinka urged the President and heads of other security agencies to disregard the call by the people he said were “ill-informed acclaimed civil rights crusaders who have suspiciously traded truth and fairness for whatever cost.”

He explained that the State Police Command had not lacked in its duties to secure the lives and property of the people of the state.

The body, therefore, warned all political actors and politicians to desist from conduct capable of causing voters apathy, breach of peace, disunity, disaffection and open door for rigging under the guise of insecurity.

“Ogun State has remained a peaceful state and should not be militarised. We urge every political party and candidates to play the game according to the rules and respect for the dignity of human persons must remain paramount.

“We say no to intimidation of voters under whatever guise and we reiterate our commitment to a free, fair and credible 2019 elections in Ogun State and Nigeria at large. Civil Society organisations are expected to be apolitical and not allow themselves to be used by politicians,” he said.
