Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has said that his governemnt had placed a high premium on the health of Oyo State citizens through its various free health mission initiatives and the recent approval of reviewed Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme on drug administration in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, made this disclosure at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government and successful fund managers on PPP scheme on drug administration at the conference room of the ministry.
According to Dr. Adeduntan, this scheme is the third in the series but it will be the first designed to cover all public secondary health facilities in the state, thereby giving the opportunity to tap into the potentials that abound in the private sector to improve healthcare delivery system particularly in the area of provision of affordable and quality drug to citizens in the state.
The commissioner stated that the scheme was a part of various free health initiatives of the Oyo State government, stressing that over 200,000 people suffering from various ailments have benefited from such initiative as free screening of patients eye and dental examination /surgery, cervical screening, free hernia operation, provision of free drugs and glasses.
Adeduntan, therefore, admonished the fund managers not to see their appointment as an opportunity to exploit poor citizens of the state who are desperate to get their prescription filled, rather a call to contribute positively to one of the cardinal programmes of this administration. He stressed that there will be regular monitoring of the scheme by the monitoring committee.
In his response, the representative of the fund managers, Chief Tunji Amole appreciates the state government for bringing back the scheme and reassured the government of improvement in their services and provision of drugs within the required time frame.
