Church unveils plans to empower youths in Lagos

As part of its mandate to empower youths and raise independent skilled workers, Lagos-based church, Glorious Word International, has unveiled plans to empower youths with in-demand skills.
Unemployment in Nigeria has reached unprecedented heights, with the country’s 33.3 per cent making it one of the highest in the world, religious institutions have begun taking it upon themselves to mitigate the biting rate of joblessness.
Glorious Word International, on Wednesday, announced ‘Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Programme (GW-SAEP)’, with the aim of training youths in areas such as barbing, hairdressing, makeup, shoemaking, baking, graphics design, photography, videography, soap making, fashion design, and digital marketing.
Industry experts have also been lined up as facilitators, with popular names such as Olamide Olayinka of Kashbase; Adewale Aderibigbe of Alpha and Jam; David Adeniyi of David and Juliet Photography; Tayo Amele of Clout Africa, Biodun Folawiyo of Shoe Speed, among others, expected to take sessions.
Speaking on the scheme which will hold between October 10 and November 10, 2021, Glorious Word lead pastor, Akinyemi Awosefaju expressed that having skills is the way to go to combat unemployment in present times.
“The reality is that government jobs can’t get to everyone. Skills are what sell forever, no matter where you are. As a church, it is not only our mission but also our joy to ensure that we are raising spiritually and vocationally capable people.” the cleric further stated.
