Church renovates Ilewo-Orile Primary Health Centre in Ogun

Published by

RELIEF has come the way of dwellers of Ilewo-Orile town in Oke-Ogun Local Council Development Area of Ogun State following the renovation of their primary healthcare centre by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Before now, residents of the  town travel many kilometres in search of medical attention but with the renovation of their health centre, the story has changed for  better.

The church also donated medical equipment, which include suction machine, delivery bed, delivery kits, malaria test kits, blood pressure apparatus and screen.

President of the Church in Abeokuta, Mr. Ebenezer Ogundele, said the gesture was to ensure progress and happiness of the generality of  the people.

Ogundele put the estimated amount spent on the project at about five million naira.

“Things like this have been part of the church. In Abeokuta, I can count between 30 to 50 boreholes that we have sunk in different locations.

“We are sure this will bring comfort to our people and subsequently lead to the development of the society as a whole. Our church places premium attention on a better livelihood for our people,” he added.

He, however, said the church was not expecting any financial returns from the gesture, saying “what matters most is the use and continuity of this place. The church is not after the money.”

The Chairman of Oke-Ogun LCDA, Honourable Salami Taoreed, stated that the project would complement the effort of the state government at providing qualitative healthcare system for the people of the state.

He said, “Our governor has been clamouring for support from non-government organisations and this church has given us exactly what the people of this community want.

“With this equipment, I am very sure my people will patronise this health centre and it is going to boost the income of the local government.

“We will try and make sure that qualified personnel who can handle the equipment are transfered to the centre.”

The Elewo of Ilewo Orile, Oba Clement Kolawole, expressed delight at the donations and contributions made by the church.

The traditional ruler, represented by the Bagbimo of Ilewo Orile, Chief Aremu Omiremi, urged the people to patronise the centre in order to make judicious use of the equipment.

He added that there would be no need for his subjects to travel to Abeokuta, the state capital, for ante-natal or to carry out simple medical tests.

The matron at the centre, Afolake Williams, however, sought the provision of medical personnel who can handle the equipment.
