The General Overseer/ founder of Grace to Grace International Church, London, Pastor (Mrs.) Atinuke Adesanya, has urged wealthy Nigerians to always help the needy as a way of touching lives and lifting the downtrodden.

She spoke against the backdrop of the economic challenge in the country.

The Grace and Mercy Project (GAMP) of Grace to Grace International Church, London, which has a branch in the community, offered free medical check-up, clothes and meals to the jubilant residents for five consecutive days.

She appealed to other organisations and persons to emulate the gesture of the group.

“We cannot look away considering the massive poverty and lacks in the community. What we are doing seems small but it is amazing it has become a major event the residents look up to every year.

“When we consider how many of them wait for one long year to get free clothes and access medical facilities, we cannot but determine to do much more.

“This has come to stay because we cannot stop with the level of needs we are confronted with every time we come around,” she said.

The church also offered free bead and hat-making trainings for interests residents free of charge during the week with a pledge to empower them with take-off grants after graduation.

Adesanya further hinted a free vocational centre would soon be commissioned in the community to increase the earning powers of trained residents in tailoring, soap-making, hairdressing, shoe-making and other trades.

According to her: “All we want is to see them economically lifted and empowered. We just want to lift as many of them are willing to leave the poverty line by all means.”

Some residents, who spoke with our correspondent, praised the church for the multi-faceted humanitarian gesture.
