Christians should celebrate Christmas with love and forgiveness ― Maku

The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Hon Labaran Maku has called on Christians in the state to celebrate this Christmas with genuine love and forgiveness for their fellows.

Maku who described Christmas as the time when Christians all over the world commemorate the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, God’s gift of love for humanity.

The former Minister of Information gave the call in a press statement made available to the Guardian on Monday in Lafia, the state capital.

“Christmas period should be seen beyond just eating and drinking but moment of sober reflection about God’s love for humanity that compelled Him to send His only son to save man from sins and suffering.

“God commands us all to love our neighbours as ourselves, and if you love your neighbour you will not kill, hate or wish him or her evil, neither will you steal or cheat.

“Let us have time to seek for God’s forgiveness this Christmas and forgive others who must have wronged you and live together as brothers and sisters as we approach a new year,” Maku pleaded.

The APGA governorship candidate in 2019 enjoins all politicians and electorates irrespective of party affiliations to shun politics of hate, deceit and acrimony.

He, however, urged Christians and Muslims alike to pray for a peaceful general election in 2019, free from any form of violence before, during and after the election.

Maku challenged Nigerians to emulate Europeans who see election period as carnival and not violence and killing cult.

“You hardly hear of violence and killing when the United States, United Kingdom and others go into polls because no human blood is worth the political ambition of any politicians.”

Maku called on the haves to share their resources with the have nots and use the season to reach out to the poor within their neighbourhood irrespective of tribe and religion.
