The 1984 alumni set of the Christ School Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has called on the government at all levels to include in the curriculum of secondary schools the teaching of advanced and relevant technological tools.
The chairman of the 1979-84 alumni set of the school, Olu Hector Fowobaje, stated this while speaking during the 2024 homecoming anniversary and lecture series of the set in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
He explained that the government must be ready to expose secondary school students to relevant tech tools such as coding, robotics, and others for them to be able to compete favourably among their peers.
On how to improve the level of secondary education in the country, Fowobaje said, “ What the government needs to do more is to inject more money into the funding of the schools, especially the provision of modern laboratories.
“ Also, they should bring in more technologically focused courses in the school curriculum like robotics, coding, and STEAM—Science , Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
“Government should also encourage competition among schools to help them grow and be better; this is also important.”
The chairman revealed that the set has spent over N40 million on the reconstruction of a dilapidated structure in the school as a way of giving back to their alma mater.
“ We are giving back to the school, and we have reconstructed a dilapidated building with over N40 million on the project to make sure the building is back in good shape.
“ With the use of technology, it has helped the old students to come together and do something for our old school. Over 40 of our old classmates have been able to come together after 40 years; it is a great one.
“ We will continue to help the school grow and be better with a good relationship between the school management and the alumni association,” he said.
