Chinese President Xi Jinping made a brief visit to Morocco on Thursday, as reported by state media from both countries.
Upon his arrival in Casablanca, Xi was welcomed by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan.
The visit emphasised the strong bonds of friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between the Moroccan and Chinese peoples, according to Morocco’s MAP news agency.
At the airport, Xi held a “cordial conversation” with Crown Prince Hassan, who was accompanied by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, as reported by China’s state broadcaster, CCTV.

This visit followed Xi’s participation in the G20 Summit in Brazil. In recent years, China has increased its investments in Morocco’s infrastructure and rail sectors.
Morocco’s strategic location near Europe, along with its free trade agreements with key EU and U.S. markets and its developing automotive industry, makes it an attractive destination for Chinese electric vehicle battery manufacturers.
In June, the Chinese electric vehicle battery producer Gotion High Tech chose Morocco as the site for Africa’s first gigafactory, which is expected to cost a total of $1.3 billion.
