China pledges to enhance visa waiver policies for foreign visitors

China reaffirmed its commitment on Tuesday to enhance the visa waiver and other relevant policies to facilitate easier access for foreigners visiting and residing in the country. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian made these comments during a daily news conference, addressing recent remarks by foreign media.

Lin highlighted that various facilitating measures, including advancements in digital payment systems, bilingual services, and express transportation, have made travel within China more convenient for international visitors. “We are glad to see the travel boom,” he remarked.

According to the latest statistics for the third quarter of this year, inbound foreign travellers to China reached 8.186 million, reflecting a significant increase of 48.8 per cent year-on-year. Notably, 4.885 million of these travellers entered China through the visa waiver policy, marking a remarkable year-on-year growth of 78.6 per cent.

Lin noted that the implementation of several facilitating measures has further reduced the waiting time for foreign travellers during entry checks and inspections. He mentioned that visitors can now directly swipe their overseas bank cards to access the subway, making travel, life, and work in China more enjoyable for foreigners. “China’s door is always wide open to welcome you all,” the spokesperson concluded.
