Ikenna Egbukole, the Executive Chairman of MITSUN Group, has been named Champion Newspaper’s Most Innovative CEO of 2024.
The recognition celebrates his outstanding leadership and groundbreaking achievements in driving business innovation.
Champion Newspaper, one of Nigeria’s leading publications, acknowledged Egbukole’s remarkable contributions to MITSUN Group’s success and its reputation as a leader in various industries. Under his guidance, the company has consistently introduced innovative solutions, experienced significant growth, and set new industry standards.
The Chairman of Champion Newspaper’s Editorial Board, Mr. Thomas Imonikhe, commended Egbukole’s visionary leadership.

The award will be formally presented during Champion Newspaper’s Annual Leadership Awards, which will take place in April 2025 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The event will bring together prominent leaders and innovators to celebrate excellence.
Ikenna Egbukole began his career in the financial sector with IGI General Insurance during his National Youth Service. Over the next 20 years, he built an impressive career at top financial institutions, including First Bank and Standard Bank Group (Stanbic IBTC).
He worked in Nigeria, South Africa, and London, specializing in structured and commodity finance. Egbukole managed portfolios worth over $1 billion and worked with global firms like Cargill, Bunge, and Olam.
“Structured finance isn’t just about balance sheets. It’s about understanding cash flow, quality, and the entire supply chain. You need to know where the product you’re financing is coming from,” Egbukole explained.
In 2020, he won the First Bank MD/CEO Award for his outstanding contributions to the bank’s operations, including its subsidiaries in London. By December 2022, he transitioned from banking to join MITSUN Group, bringing his expertise to the trade and logistics sector. Within two years, he led the company’s expansion to Dubai and Singapore, driving its African and Asian trade operations.
He was later appointed Executive Chairman of the Group.
