A training and empowerment organisation, Gritford Learning Centre, has commenced the hosting of a scholarship programme in digital skill training for eligible youths, women, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and other vulnerable groups in the South West and part of Kwara State.
Gritford is hosting the programme, Normtak-Haifx Consortium Digital Skill Training Empowerment Project (DSTEP), with the support of the World Bank/International Development Association (IDA), the Federal Ministry of Education’s Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project and other stakeholders.
A statement signed by DSTEP Project Implementation Manager, Jumoke Raji and DSTEP Project Consortium Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Gritford Learning, Mobolaji Ajani, said: “Upon completion of the five-month intensive training (including a two-month internship), we aim to facilitate local or global remote job opportunities for at least 50 percent of the successful participants within five months.”

The statement added: “Digitalisation and technological advancements are changing the world of work and the skills needed for employment.
“In Sub-Saharan Africa alone, an estimated 230 million jobs will require digital skills within the next decade, offering employment opportunities for its ever-growing youth population.
“However, young people in Africa face several barriers that prevent them from obtaining the types of skills required for employment. This is the big challenge we are trying to solve and make the desired impact on the present and future of our dear youthful demography.
“In response to the significant challenges faced by young people in Africa, particularly in obtaining the essential skills for employment, DSTEP stands as a global collaborative initiative spearheaded by the World Bank and FME-IDEAS.
“Our current focus spans South West Nigeria and part of Kwara State, with a special emphasis on females, persons with disabilities, and the vulnerable, aiming to enhance job opportunities and transform lives and communities.”
