CDHR, security agencies sensitise Nigerians on kidnapping, terrorism

Published by

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) and other security agencies in Ogun State, on Thursday, staged a walk against kidnapping, terrorism and other crimes.

The walk, according to the state chairman of CDHR, Comrade Yinka Folarin, was organised to sensitise members of the public on crimes and to re-awaken government on the need to be more proactive in handling security issues.

The walk, which started around 8:30a.m terminated at the Governor’s office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta and had representatives of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Vigilance Service of Ogun State.

Folarin stated that the peace being enjoyed in the state could not be traded off, stressing the need for the public to be more educated and enlightened towards providing useful information to security agencies.

He also called for the inauguration of the state Security Task Force, which he said would go a long way to combat crimes.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, in his remarks, maintained that the implementation of the state’s anti-kidnapping law would deter criminals from engaging in the crime.

“We have a law that will come down heavily on anyone that gets involved in kidnapping.”

“Though, we have not made it a capital offence, we believe that the law as it is, if well implemented, should deter them from going ahead with this criminal act.”

Amosun added that improved partnership with the federal government will rid the country of criminals.
