Its Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Hussaini, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Akwanga on Friday that the minors had often found it difficult to stop cows from destroying farm produce.
“We have always found that minors hardly control the cows effectively which often leads to the destruction of farms and subsequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
“Our advice to herdsmen is to ensure that cows are handed over to adults with the experience to effectively control them against straying into farms,” he said.
Hussaini urged herdsmen to avoid grazing on farmlands so as to avert clashes and also boost food production in the country.
The Chairman advised herdsmen involved in criminal activities to desist in the interest of peace and harmony with neigbours.
He called on the farmers to show understanding with herdsmen, pointing out that no cattle breeder would deliberately destroy crops just to hurt the owners.
The Chairman said that his association had consistently preached peace and unity not only among the Fulani, but among all Nigerians.
“The security challenges in the country have affected our lives, agricultural production and the cows. We need the best atmosphere to grow our economy, improve out revenue base and move Nigeria to greater heights,” he said.
Hussaini called for mutual respect between Fulani and farmers, and advised them to respect each others’ rights to promote and protect their economic base.
