Cash, food items distributed to indigents to mark memorial in Ondo

Descendants of the late Chief Stephen Babalayoriju Aruwajoye of Owo kingdom, brought succour to hundreds of indigent families, distributing food items and cash gifts as part of activities to celebrate the 40th memorial anniversary of the patriarch.

Apart from the distribution of food items and cash gifts, the family also distributed textbooks and notebooks worth millions of Naira to school children in the ancient community in memory of the late Aruwajoye.

Speaking, the head of the family, Chief Akinboro Aruwajoye, said the empowerment by the family came on the heels of the memorial activities put together for the 40th remembrance of the late patriarch of Aruwajoye.

He said the empowerment was borne out of the philanthropic gesture of silently and steadily putting a smile on the faces of many residents of Owo, bringing harmonious coexistence among the people.

He said the distribution of textbooks and notebooks reinforced the importance attached to education by late patriarch, saying “this is a cause that Chief Aruwajoye passionately supported during his lifetime”

He disclosed that descendants of the late patriarch around the world gathered in Owo not only to celebrate his 40th memorial anniversary, but to recognize and reignite his philanthropy gesture while alive.

He said, “our patriarch, Chief S.B. Aruwajoye was a man of many titles—a pioneer industrialist, renowned politician, and dedicated community leader. Throughout his life, he championed the welfare of others, and the memorial celebration served as a testament to his philanthropic spirit.

“By distributing vital resources, his descendants echoed his commitment to uplifting those in need, ensuring that his values of compassion and generosity continue to resonate”

Speaking on the highlight of events, the head of the family said, “the celebrations witnessed visits to significant landmarks sites, including the Olowo of Owo’s palace and the local museum, where family members shared stories and memories that highlighted their patriarch’s profound impact on the community”

He disclosed thay an evening event was organized at the Aruwajoye Civic Hall, where people reminiscent and reflect on the values of unity and service that Chief Aruwajoye instilled in them.

The memorial festivities culminated in a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Methodist Church, Ajibolade at Chief S.B Aruwajoye’s residence.

“This final gathering provided an opportunity for family and community members to express gratitude for the life and legacy of a man who dedicated himself to the betterment of Owo and its people.

As the descendants of Chief S.B. Aruwajoye gathered together this year to honor his memory, “we did not only celebrate his remarkable life but also reaffirm our commitment to philanthropy and service.

“The distribution of palliatives and educational resources during this memorial serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have on the lives of many, ensuring that the spirit of giving continues to thrive in Owo and beyond”

The event witnessed outpouring of heartwarming goodwill messages by individuals and different social groups who came to celebrate the iconic philantropist of note.
