Cascador to mentor mid-stage African entrepreneurs

Published by

Cascador, an entrepreneurial Lagos-based organisation, has reiterated its commitment to mentor and support mid-stage African entrepreneurs through its 2021 entrepreneurial programme aimed at helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses and interpersonal skills.

This was made known on Tuesday by Cynthia Mene, the Programme Manager of the organisation, through a communiqué issued to Nigerian Tribune.

Mene noted that the focus of the annual, no-cost programme—which will be held at the Lagos Business School—is to scale businesses, including a six-month support programme for entrepreneurs. She also noted that the deadline for the application is July 15 and that applicants can get more information from their website.

Expert judges for the programme are Danladi Verheijen, Managing Partner at Verod Capital; and Ada Osakwe, an African Development Bank advisor. The core faculties include David DeLucia, co-founder of Cascador; Chidi Okoro, former CEO of GSK Nigeria; and Trish Thomas, CEO of TEEM Marketing. Other resources persons for the programme include eight veteran mentors and two leadership coaches.

Dave DeLucia stated that after the programme, there will be a follow-up with six months of post-programme mentoring and quarterly group learning sessions.

Explaining the focus of Cascador and how it differs from traditional start-up accelerators in Africa, Chidi Okoro, a Cascador faculty, noted that they consciously target mid-stage entrepreneurs who have a track record of sales and fundraising.

“This subset of business owners is often neglected in the landscape of support programmes and tools,” Okoro stated. “Yet they have proven successes, the ability to rapidly scale, and the potential to transform the economy of Nigeria—and beyond.”

Dr Chris Ogbechie, Dean at Lagos Business School, stated that their educational environment already draws on the experiences of a multinational faculty, so the framework of Cascador aligns with their educational philosophy, and, more importantly, the Cascador vision supports their goal of fostering business leaders with strong ethics, professionalism and management skills.
