Bello, who was arraigned on a charge of theft, which is contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code, pleaded guilty but begged the court for leniency.
Magistrate Murtala Ibrahim sentenced Bello to 17 months without the option of fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Aliyu Malami had told the court that one Mohammed Salihu of Al Bishiri area of Minna apprehended and brought the accused person to the station on July 6.
Malami said that Bello was accused of stealing a car battery belonging to one Yahaya Mahmud.
