Caretaker drags tenant to court over alleged inability to pay rent

A caretaker, Mr Idris Sheriff, on Monday dragged one Dino Electrician to a Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari in Kaduna for the tenant’s alleged inability to pay N65,000 annual rent.

The complainant, residing at Kakuri Community in Kaduna told the court that the defendant was supposed to have paid the rent in January.

“He was supposed to pay his rent in January because his rent expired in December 2018,’’ Sheriff said.

He prayed the court to compel the defendant to pay the rent and to also make an undertaking to pay subsequent rents as at when due.

The defendant, who resides at No 14, Yoruba Road, Kaduna, prayed the court to give him till the end of May to pay the rent.

“I will do my best to pay subsequent rents on time,’’ he told the court.

The Judge, Mr Musa Sa’ad-Goma, ruled that the defendant should pay the rent on or before May 30.

He, however, warned the defendant to always pay his rent when due.
