Mark Carney has been officially sworn in as Canada’s new prime minister at a ceremony held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
During the ceremony, Carney pledged allegiance to King Charles III, as well as to his heirs and successors.
The event also saw members of his newly formed cabinet begin taking their oaths of office, setting the stage for the incoming administration’s agenda.
Speaking briefly to reporters upon arrival, Carney said of his government: “we’re going to get straight to work.”

According to the BBC, the new prime minister is expected to address Canadians later today in his first official speech since assuming office.
Carney will make his first overseas trip as prime minister next week, heading to Europe instead of the United States, which traditionally hosts the Canadian leader’s first foreign visit.
Chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet reports that the shift comes in the wake of sweeping tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on both sides of the Atlantic.
Earlier in the day, outgoing prime minister Justin Trudeau formally resigned, concluding his tenure with a message to the country: “for trusting me, for challenging me.”
