Many thought that was all for him, but BurnaBoy, the self-acclaimed African Giant will end the year with even a bigger surprise – Grammy nomination. Not many people saw the Grammy nomination coming for him but some predicted it and his African Giant album has been nominated in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category.
Other nominees in the ‘Best World Music Album’ catergory include: three-time winner and fellow African, Angelique Kidjo for her album Celia; Nathalie Joachim and Spektral Quartet for FamnD’Ayiti; as well as Bokante and Metropole Orkest for What Heat.
The 28-year old artiste would not be the first Nigerian to be nominated though, as joinsan elite club of Grammy nominees which featuresKing Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti,SeunKutiand Wizkid.
Popular Nigerian acts such as BankyW, Davido, Wizkid and Don Jazzy have all congratulated the artiste on the landmarkrecognition. The social media was also awash with messages from fans and well-wishers and it seems that the whole of the African continent is putting their weight behind him to land the prestigious prize.
While this may be his debut entry, many have fancied his chances of bringing home the award. Angelina Kidjo from Benin Republic has already won 3 times, Nathalie Joachim and the group Spektral Quartet also made their debut entry into Grammy nominations butMetropole Orkest hadtasted Grammy victory.
This means that the African Giant has a real fight on his hands to win the category as his competitors are no dwarves.ax
