As usual and as the hand of the clock is ticking towards the time, the political atmosphere is already charged and still being charged with high tension, palpable fear and apprehension of high joule. The political horse trading has begun in earnest with the present and ongoing gale of defections by the political gladiators across the political lines.
The prospective candidates from different political parties, nursing ambitions to occupy various political offices, as a matter of fact, have been surreptitiously canvassing in company of their lackeys, cronies, acolytes and allies-running from pillar to post, to seek for the support and favour of their political god-fathers, for re-election and fresh elective positions in the next political dispensation.
As a Nigerian, I see nothing absurd in anybody jostling for position under the democratic dispensation, so far the person, is a bonafide Nigerian, with necessary qualifications as enshrined in Nigerian constitution. As good as it is, to showing interest in piloting the affairs of one’s nation through democratic system, which is amply and sensibly described; as the government of the people, for the people, and by the people. It is therefore excruciatingly painful to note that our successive leaders, from the beginning of Nigeria’s independence, had veered of the true meaning of the above definition of what democracy is all about, considering their failure, to hitherto, deliver masses-oriented programmes-the type of which, the oppressed masses, will have a sense of belonging as true Nigerians.
This is a clarion call to our elected leaders and prospective ones to have a positive change of heart and thus create a new spirit of building a virile, strong, progressive and united Nigeria, devoid of stealing and amassing the country’s resources and wealth at the expense of the masses. It is in the light of this that l beseech our present and incoming leaders across the political divides to cultivate a good habit of making life meaningful, conducive and habitable for the hapless Nigerian masses, whose back you rode and which you will still ride to your various elective offices.
Last but not the least, I am using this opportunity to appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari, to conduct a violent free election by outlawing the use of thugs, street urchins and rogues whose trade in stock is nothing but to cause vandals, mayhems and skirmishes in the interest of their political pay-masters, during the election period.
