The police on Friday arraigned a businessman, Oseni Auta, in a Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over failure to produce a suspect in a criminal case.
The defendant who resides in Mpape Abuja is charged with the screening of offenders.
The police prosecutor, Joseph Essien, told the court that the Inspector-General of Police was informed by the CPS Manager Fergus of the General Investigation office Abuja that on Aug. 8, 2017, the defendant promised to produce a suspect, Ikenna Osaiyi in court.
Essien said that the defendant failed to produce Osaiyi as promised.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 167 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant denied committing the offence.
Mr Henry Akwaji, counsel to the defendant, applied for bail on the most liberal terms.
Magistrate Lateef Abolaji granted the prayers of the council and admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of 100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must deposit an affidavit of means to the registry, a copy tax clearance and valid means of identification.
The magistrate further ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction which must be verified.
He adjourned the case until May 15, for further hearing.
