Business analyst advocates for tech-driven strategies to revolutionise Nigeria’s food transportation

A business analyst and data scientist, Gbemileke has advocated for the adoption of tech-driven strategies to revolutionize Nigeria’s food transportation system.

According to Gbemileke, improving the efficiency of food transportation is not only crucial for reducing operational costs for businesses but also essential for ensuring a reliable and sustainable food supply for consumers.

He stated that technology and innovation are the keys to transforming the nation’s food transportation landscape, which in turn, can contribute significantly to the overall health and prosperity of the country.

Gbemileke said, “Enhancing food transportation efficiency is a multifaceted endeavour that benefits businesses through lower operational costs and ensures a more reliable and sustainable food supply for consumers. It reflects a vision where technology and innovation drive progress, leading to a brighter and more sustainable future for all. By embracing these strategies, we can transform Nigeria’s food transportation landscape and contribute to a healthier nation and a more prosperous economy.”

Gbemileke also said improving transportation efficiency could help address the food insecurity in the country.

He said, “Nigeria faces a significant food crisis, characterized by high levels of food insecurity and malnutrition. Inefficient transportation and distribution systems exacerbate this crisis by causing food spoilage and loss. By implementing the proposed strategies, we can ensure that more food reaches those in need, reducing hunger and improving nutrition.

“Improving transportation efficiency also means that food can be moved quickly from surplus regions to deficit regions, balancing supply and demand more effectively. This redistribution is crucial for addressing the uneven food availability across different parts of Nigeria.”

Gbemileke equally suggested the
Optimization of routes for efficiency and Sustainability in Nigeria.

He stated that the traditional means of transporting farm produce are ineffective.

Gbemileke said, “At the heart of this endeavour is the implementation of advanced logistical strategies, starting with optimized route planning. Traditional transportation methods in Nigeria often rely on static routes and schedules, which can lead to inefficiencies and increased fuel consumption.

“By adopting dynamic route optimization, we can adjust routes in real-time based on factors such as traffic conditions, weather, and delivery priorities. This not only reduces transportation costs but also minimizes carbon emissions, contributing to a greener environment.

“Nigeria’s diverse geography and sometimes challenging infrastructure require a tailored approach. Dynamic route optimization can help navigate these challenges effectively, ensuring that food reaches even the most remote areas efficiently.”

Other ways he suggested are harnessing real-time tracking and predictive analytics,
and reducing food wastage and enhancing delivery accuracy among others.
