Buruku attack: Dead bodies still in the sand ―Federal lawmaker

Published by

Barely three weeks after Fulani attack on Buruku communities in Benue State dead bodies are still buried in the sand.

Honourable, Emmanuel Orker Jev who represents Buruku federal constituency at the house of representative, said this yesterday while speaking on the update of the crisis in the local government.

The federal lawmaker who spoke to newsmen in Makurdi yesterday said that at the last count, 20 persons were killed in the attack but 15 corpses have so far been recovered.

He added that many people were still missing.

According to him, “people have started returning to their villages because normalcy is returning to the area, but that does not mean that the herders have moved out of the area completely.”

“The problem is that they have relocated to other parts of Buruku, for instance, there are still skirmishes here and there, particularly, my village Mbayav.”

Orker Jev said, “By the record at my disposal, 20 persons were killed, while 15 dead bodies have been recovered. Many corpses are still buried in the sand and several persons still missing.”

Orker Jev faulted federal government for not paying serious attention to Fulani/ farmers attacks in the country.

“If federal government has been paying serious attention to the incessant clashes between Fulani herders and farmers in the country, particularly, Benue state, the problem would have been minimal.”

“Look at the seriousness shown in the case of Zaki Biam, I am not saying it is not good, but the point is that it is because the Zaki Biam issue is not Fulani/Farmers crisis, it shows that there are some powerful elements behind the Fulanis.”

“The Fulani/farmers clashes in Benue is pathetic, if you are not from WAZOBIA, (meaning the three major ethnic groups in the country) you are treated as second class citizen,” he lamented.

He called on his people to remain calm.
