BUK trains 274 health professionals from African countries

The Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy (ACEPHA) at Bayero University Kano (BUK) has trained over 274 health professionals from various African countries on population health.

According to the Director of ACEPHA, Professor Hadiza Galadanchi, the center has achieved significant milestones since its establishment in 2019, including introducing new postgraduate programs and conducting research in areas such as anemia during pregnancy.

The announcement was made during BUK’s first international conference on population health, themed “Resilience and Optimization: Building Sustainable Population Health in Africa.”

While speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Sagir Abbas, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Sani M. Gumel, emphasising its significance in improving the general health status of the people.

He therefore added; “This conference is a testament to the dedication of our university community and a step towards advancing global health challenges in Africa.

“The conference aimed to forge international development in the health sector, facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences to achieve set objectives”.

Prof. Abdulrahman Abba Sheshe, Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, expressed hope that the conference would fine-tune research modalities to improve public health.

In his speech at the occasion, the 16th Emir of Kano Mohammad Sanusi || Who spoke Virtually said much needed to be done to address the menace of maternal mortality.

Emir Sanusi called on men in the society to be extra careful of married wives they could not cater to adequately adding that it is a wicked ride that must be discouraged.

According to him, such children born into such a family, because of lack of financial capability, would end up lacking good parental care and necessary attention.

Emir Sanusi also charged members of society to provide all necessary needful for proper upbringing for women and girls.

He noted that the conference was very timely, stressing that the traditional institution would not relent in ensuring that the needed data were provided for policymakers to ensure adequate planning to address the challenges.

However, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, commended BUK and ACEPHA for organising the conference.

He emphasised the importance of addressing population health challenges in Africa and noted that his administration has prioritized the health sector, achieving significant milestones since taking office.

Gov Yusuf emphasised; “This initiative showcases our commitment to advancing health, education, and research in our beloved Kano State and beyond.

“Today, we gather not only as representatives of various institutions, states, and countries but as advocates for excellence in public health”.

The conference brought together experts from across the globe to discuss critical health challenges facing the continent.

The conference was attended by dignitaries, including the 16th Emir of Kano, Mohammad Sanusi II, who emphasized the need to address maternal mortality, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who commended BUK and ACEPHA for organising the conference.
