Building collapse claims 3 in Jigawa

No fewer than three people  were killed in a building collapse, following a torrential rain in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State , on Tuesday.

An eyewitness account told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday , in Guri that the incident occurred at Kajarko Village, following a downpour.

A resident, Malam Bashir Buba, said that the rain that was accompanied by windstorm destroyed houses and farmlands in the area.

Buba said that the deceased were staying in a mud house when it collapsed on them due to the intensity of the rain.

He explained that the residents recovered three bodies buried under rubble during a rescue exercise.

The secretary to the local government, Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, who confirmed the incident, described the damage as “colossal’’.

Hassan said that the council had deployed personnel to assess the level of damage and the needs of the victims.

He called on the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to assist the victims to assuage their sufferings.
