THE wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, as well as the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi 11, on Saturday condemned in strong terms the rape of a six-month-old baby, Khadijat Bashir, by a 30-year old, Muktakar Muhammad. They said the culprit must be made to face the wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others.
It will be recalled that Khadijat, now eight-months old was raped by Muhammad with the help of his wife for ‘mysterious’ reason.
Mrs Buhari, who visited the baby on her sick bed at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano where she was responding to treatment, described the act as inhuman and commended Kano State government for taking a drastic action to save the life of the defiled minor.
The Emir of Kano who came before the arrival of the First Lady, called on security agencies and the state government to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
The emir consoled the parents of the child and promised that the Emirate Council would do its best to ensure the welfare of the child and her parents.
However, in a swift reaction to the rape saga the state government in a statement signed by Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba and made available to newesmen, vowed to ensure that the victim got justice.
The statement reads: “We are deeply saddened by a story of a six-month-old baby girl allegedly raped by a close confidant in Kano, the government of Kano state says it will make whoever is found guilty the first to pay the supreme price of life imprisonment.”
According to the state, Governor Ganduje has directed the state Ministry of Justice to handle the matter properly by ensuring that it is delivered to the letter.
