Buhari trains youths in aquaculture

The Senator representing Oyo North in the National Assembly, Senator Fatai Buhari has facilitated training for youths in aquaculture in line with the Federal Government’s diversification of the economy from mono-economy to other sectors.

The Ogbomoso-born senator representing Oyo North commended Realand Standard Investment Ltd, Easystone Project & Services Ltd and Advance Data Services Ltd for their supports in making the training which held simultaneously in Iseyin, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Iwajowa and Igboho, in Oorelope, a reality.

Hundreds of youths drawn from the 13 local governments that make up the senatorial district were trained in the weeklong exercise.

The training tagged value capacity building on aquaculture for youths and women, for aquaculture production and fish post harvest technology was organised by Nigeria Institute for Oceangraphy and Marine Research (NIOMR).

A beneficiary, Tunde Azeez, said the training would help the youth and women to create wealth on their own, adding that this will also go a long way in reducing unemployment rate in Oyo North senatorial district and the state as a whole.

Azeez said, ‘’there are 13 local governments under senator Fatai Buhari with Itesiwaju, Kajola, Iwajowa, and Iseyin are the four local governments present here for the training, other local governments are also doing their own simultaneously in their areas.

“I believe it will reduce poverty and alleviate suffering of the masses particularly people of this constituency, we were also told that money be will giving to us so that we can start the fishing business after the completion of our training program.

Also speaking, Mrs. Badmos Nofisat from Itesiwaju local government who said they were trained on how to rear fish and how to keep records when it is time for them to start their own business, added that the training was based on how to do operation for fish without causing damage to them.

“This training is practically oriented, they took us to a fish pond and also taught us on how to source for fertile land and the length of the land to be used when it is time for us to start our own fish pond.”

In his remark, one of the trainer Mr. Ayaobu Cookey said that the training would help the people to create wealth and generate employment on their own at the end of the training program.

He pointed out that if the people joined the fish farming business after the completion of their training, they will create job for themselves and automatically create for others who are unemployed and this will increase the GDP of Oyo State.

“The idea of Senator Fatai Buhari was to see that Nigerian youth and women particularly in his constituency create job for themselves and not relying on the government, this will reduce crime and fortified their family.

Cookey however said that both the organiser and facilitators of the training will also help the trainees by giving them starter package either in monetary form or materials on fish farming for them to practice and establish on what they have learnt from the training because fish farming enterprise is a profitable business.

“Fish breading, fish feed production, post harvest production, fish diseases management, and life feed to mention a few are ways that can bring huge money to the trainees,” Cookey added.
