Buhari should go home and rest —Durojaiye

Published by

Bishop Joshua Oluwasola Durojaye of the Blood of Jesus Calvary Church International, Ibadan, Oyo State, speaks with OLAIDE SOKOYA, about the forthcoming elections and give advice to President Muhammadu Buhari.

What is your view on for the coming election?

I see this election as polarising the country.  For a nation to have a leader of about 78 years. It is seen that the political system is the only way to make money or progress in life but that is not the way. Among all the parties displaying their banners, I can only see of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progresives Congress (APC), while others are just playing on the gallery. I know with prayer, God will give us the right choice.

Mr President is now 76 years old; the office of president needs agility, strength and alertness. There is nothing anybody can do if Buhari wants to run again. God is a God of time; God has helped him to go through a tenure, because of his age, I would advise him to go and rest. He should go back home to enjoy the rest of his life.

Did God reveal anything to you concerning the election?

What God revealed to me is not very straight forward, unlike what God told me in 2015. In 2015, God told me Preisdent Buhari would win but won’t be able to do much. But for this time, God told me Baba Obasanjo is going back to Aso rock. I then think, Obasanjo is not the president. How would he go back to Aso rock? God’s way is not our way and God’s words are filled with mysteries.

What is your advice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all the candidates for the elections?

First, (INEC) should cut down the cost of obtaining forms; it is too costly. INEC should be more prepared to carry out its stalatory duties. They should make sure that the card readers are in good condition. That is the most important. All eyes are on them, both at international and local level. are really looking into this election; it is a decisive election.  The candidates should fear God in all what they do. I pray the elections should be peaceful. We are in 40 days fasting and prayer for the nation and most especially the coming elections.

How would you compare Christianity of the sixties when you joined the ministry WITHwhat obtains now?

The church is a sacred office. The quest for materialism shouldn’t be what clerics should focus on. Instead, they should prioritise service to the people. When God blesses us, it isn’t for us but for the people. The church should be far from the ways of the world. The bible states that godliness with contentment is great gain. Many clerics are no longer contented; some want to live in affluence and embrace the seeming alluring perks of office. We should be humble and godly.

Some claim evangelism is fading away. How true is the claim?

I think the idea of sin abounds and no technology will ever take sins away. The things of this world are created for good and bad; the devil will take and begin to use for more and more evil deeds. So, we have to be careful with them what God blesses us with. Infidelity is everywhere but you and I can choose to be in holiness in relationship with the living God all others things can be used for our good and it’s just that men and women tend to show their views on what they are after.

Some pastors have said Nigeria is the way it is because we don’t pray enough. You said it is because we are too religious. What is the basis for your stand?

It can be seen from both sides of the coin. I have not said we shouldn’t pray. What I’m saying is that we should be conscious of the presence of God in us. When we recognise the presence of God, we will do what is right.

What is your advice to Christians as they prepare to vote on Saturday?

The bible says, ‘Ask, it shall be given to you; believe and you shall receive; seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened. This is what I call the greatest promise of the Bible. My simplest advice to Christians is to ask, knock and seek. Also, I urge all the candidates for the elections to accept the result wholeheartedly. Those that lose should accept their fate and re-strategise for the next election.
