President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other top officials of the present administration on Tuesday laid wreaths in honour of soldiers who died in service in Nigeria.
The ceremony which took place at the National Arcade in the Three Arms Zone in Abuja, was to mark the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day which comes up January 15 every year.
The occasion is also dedicated to remembering and appreciating surviving Nigerian military men who have retired from active service.

Among those who participated in the ceremony were Senate President Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen and Service Chiefs.
The wreaths-laying ceremony at the came after over a month that the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund was launched by the President.
The ceremony was marked by Christian and Muslim prayers offered for the departed souls and the nation.
A one minute silence was also observed in honour of the departed souls before a gun salute.
