He, however, said President Muhammadu Buhari, was the messiah that could salvage the country.
This is just as the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, said any politician that remained in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remained a “sinner.”
Odigie-Oyegun, who spoke at a mega rally of the party in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, said it was obvious that things were a bit hard for people in the country but efforts were on to ensure that the people benefitted from the initiatives of the Buhari-led government.
The chairman said the president was a God-sent messiah that had been piloting the affairs of the country in the right direction, saying the criticisms against Buhari administration were coming from people that did not wish the country well.
According to him, the present administration has taken some steps at making the country self-sufficient and self-reliant.
He said: “Today, though things are a bit hard in our nation, we admit that, a lot of senseless things are being said about the party and about the leader, the President. Don’t listen to them. I want to tell you that to this nation, God sent a messiah, God sent President Buhari to heal the wounds of this nation.
“Today, we don’t depend on oil anymore but on agriculture for the sustenance of this country. We are almost self-sufficient in rice production. Today, we are building a new rail way system that will pass through Lokoja, a totally new railway system. Today the power in this country has stabilised at 7000 mwtts, that is only the beginning of good things that are yet to come.”
Odigie-Oyegun berated people claiming that there were crises in the party, saying in spite of the claims, many people were still defecting to the APC.
He also lauded Bello for the manner he had been governing the state and managing the affairs of the party
He said: “ I want to encourage because what I have seen today I will go and tell the president. This is a wonderful crowd; it is a young and energetic crowd. I have no doubt leaving here that the day President Buhari indicates interest for a second term, Kogi State would be one of the major sponsors.
“I have come to receive some very prominent sons of Kogi State into the APC. They say we are quarreling; they say we are fighting but everyday, serious people are trooping into the APC, the winning and progressive fold with the change agenda”.
Bello, however, told the crowd at the Confluence Stadium Lokoja, that the 24 APC governors wanted Buhari to contest again in 2019.
The governor said: “APC is the only party in Kogi State; there is no more PDP; all the PDP members that matter in Kogi State have decamped to the APC because of the good work President Buhari is doing.
“As a matter of fact, the President must contest in 2019 and all of us, starting from myself to the 24 APC governors, are ready to support him under the able leadership of Chief Odigie-Oyegun and the current NWC members.
“They have shown us quality leadership, courageous and fearless leadership. We in Kogi state and the entire youths across the country, the women across the country, we are supporting the President to run in 2019.
“You can be rest assured that Nigeria and Kogi State would be delivered from the evil of the past.
“I am welcoming all PDP members that decamped to APC today. When you come in, work and work, this is your home; this is where you belong. You have decided to sin no more. Those that are still in the PDP are the sinners.”
