Buhari living up to Awolowo’s ideals ― APC Campaign Director

South West Zonal Director of the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Council, Mr Olusola Oke, on Friday, called on the South West to support Buhari’s election, noting that Buhari was living up to the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo like accountability, transparency and commitment to the development of the zone.

Speaking at the South West APC Campaign office in Ibadan, Oke argued that the Buhari administration had brought about capacity development, diversified the economy to Agriculture, focused on Industrialization, revived roads and rail, improved power generation and imbued in Nigerians the consciousness to detest corruption.

This is as he said foreign countries now had implicit confidence in Nigeria because the era of deceit, looting of the treasury and corruption, in all forms, was being tackled strategically.

He added that the Buhari administration had given the South West a pride of place by allocating key positions to the Yoruba in his cabinet, while also fixing the Lagos/Ibadan road and reviving the Lagos-Ibadan-Kano rail.

According to Oke, Buhari had through his assigning key positions and sitting infrastructural projects in the zone, epitomised the resolve of Awolowo for development of the South West.

He consequently held that the zone was poised not to lose its opportunity to establish itself in national politics and would vote enmasse for Buhari/Osinbajo.

“Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s lived for transparency, accountability and that Yoruba should not be at the back seat and Buhari is living up to these ideals. Buhari is creating a solid foundation that cannot be reversed and we want to sustain these legacies. The South West occupies a centrepiece in our polity and we will not allow anybody to reduces that opportunity as a zone,” Oke said.

Oke downplayed reservations about Buhari’s health status, noting that Buhari was stronger today than he was four years ago.

He further rubbished questions about Buhari’s ill-health, noting that slips at campaigns should not be termed dementia.

“Four years ago, pundits predicted that Buhari won’t last four years. Buhari today is stronger than four years ago. When you talk about slips, we all have slip of tongue. What is the trauma in President wanting to say South East and he said North East? And people have elevated that to dementia. If a load of Nigeria is put on some of us at our younger age, we will have slip or tongue and hands in the process.

“The physical capacity of the President has improved. He has moved from state to state. In any event,  he is not a sole administrator and all he has to do is to have men that are competent in different sections to run the country. The President has more capacity than before,” Oke said.
