Buhari inaugurates 120-bed hospital in Benue

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, inaugurated a 120-bed hospital for mother and child in Makurdi, the Benue capital.

The president who was represented by the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said that the establishment of the project was to address the maternal and child mortalities in the country.

The hospital, according to the president was fully equipped with state of the arts equipment.

The president said that 15 of such facilities were completed in other states but awaiting inauguration, adding that 12 others were in various stages of completion.

The president however called on all Benue people to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari as he works conscientiously to rebuild Nigeria after the devastating effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“President Muhammadu Buhari does not desire to leave any Nigerian behind in his quest to provide a better living condition for all and that is why the establishment of this Centre, like all his other initiatives, are devoid of party affiliations,” he said.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Governor, Samuel Ortom, who was represented by his deputy, Benson Abounu commended the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President (OSSAP) on SDGs for approving the project and ensuring its full completion.

While assuring that the state government would continue to ensure execution of SDGs projects in the state, the governor said that his administration had donated another piece of land close to the hospital for the building of Doctors Quarters.

He also promised to link the hospital with the Benue State University Teaching Hospital for better operation and utilisation of the facility.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Mrs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said that aside from the construction of the 120-bed hospital, SDGs had also completed other 32 projects in the state within four years.

“Your Excellencies, in Benue state, between 2016 and 2020, we have provided 19 projects in the education sector; seven projects in water & sanitation; four in infrastructure; two in clean & affordable energy; and this Mother and Child Centre we are commissioning today,” Adefulire said.
