Buhari gives assent to eight new bills

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday signed eight new bills into law.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, disclosed this to State House correspondents in Abuja shortly after the president performed the act in his office.

He gave the bills to include National Judicial Institute Amendment Bill, 2016;

Advertising Practitioners Registration Amendment Bill, 2016; Utilities Charges Commission Amendment Bill, 2016 and Quality Surveyors Registration Amendment Bill, 2016.
Others are Small and Medium Scale Industries Development Agency Amendment Bill, 2016;
Treaty to Establish African Economic Community Relating to Pan African Parliament (Accession Nad Jurisdiction) Amendment Bill, 2016; University of Abuja Amendment Bill, 2016 and Chartered Institute of Stock Brokers Amendment Bill, 2016.

The bills had earlier been passed by the National Assembly and transmitted to the president for his assent.

Enang explained that with the signing of the bills, they have become Acts and enforceable laws in the country.

He commended the National Assembly for its “dexterity” in handling bills noting that the present legislature had surpassed the previous one on the number of bills passed in one and half years of the current government.

He also praised the lawmakers for maintaining a cordial relationship with the executive arm of government.
