PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has joined the academia in celebrating foremost historian and educationist, Emeritus Professor Anthony Ijaola Asiwaju, who turned 80 on Sunday.
A statement issued by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity) in Abuja on Friday said President Buhari congratulated Emeritus Professor Asiwaju for numerous recognitions and awards on his researches on Nigeria, West Africa and Africa that has enriched knowledge, deepened understanding and widened scope of scholarship on cultures, colonies and Africa’s search for identity and development in a global world.
The President extolled the historian for maintaining a strong relationship with his roots, after conquering many odds to acquire a good education, and working diligently to provide ladders of opportunities for many underprivileged to attain great heights through knowledge.
As the historian turns an octogenarian, President Buhari commended his patriotism and contribution to national development, especially his willingness to provide wise counsels to governments and institutions when called upon.
The President prayed that the Almighty God will grant him longer life, good health and strength to keep inspiring generations of nation builders.
